Navigating Anxiety with Creativity and Compassion

Introduction

Anxiety can feel like a constant hum beneath the surface—tightening your chest, racing your thoughts, and leaving you exhausted from masking it in daily life. At Unpolished Journey, therapy is not about trying to “fix” you. It’s about slowing down, listening deeply, and finding ways to understand the roots of your anxiety. I’m Morgan Blair, LPC, and I work with teens, young adults, and creatives who are ready to approach anxiety in a way that is compassionate, collaborative, and uniquely their own.

Anxiety Through the Lens of Identity and Creativity

Many of the people I work with describe themselves as artists, writers, deep thinkers, or individuals who have always felt a little out of step with the mainstream. Anxiety often shows up in these spaces through perfectionism, creative blocks, or constant worry about “not being enough.” For neurodivergent clients, masking adds another layer of emotional and physical exhaustion. And for LGBTQ+ clients, anxiety can stem from the pressure of navigating a world that doesn’t always affirm who you are.

Therapy here is about recognizing these intersections, honoring them, and giving anxiety the context it deserves. You are not a diagnosis. You are a whole person with a story worth telling.

My Approach to Supporting Anxiety

At Unpolished Journey, we do things differently. Therapy is not about fitting you into a model; it’s about tailoring the process to you. That may look like:

  • Art-making and Journaling: Sometimes words alone can’t capture the depth of anxiety. Through creative expression, we can tap into layers of experience that are often overlooked.
  • Narrative Exploration: Together, we can explore the stories you’ve been told about anxiety, stories about being “too sensitive” or “too much”, and reframe them in ways that empower you.
  • Body-Based Practices: Anxiety often lives in the body. By practicing gentle awareness of sensations, we create new pathways for grounding and regulation.
  • Collaborative Conversations: You set the pace. Therapy becomes a dialogue shaped by your needs, not a rigid checklist.

For Whom This Space is Made

I work primarily with individuals ages 16–35, but I also support clients as young as 10 who are beginning to explore big emotions. Many of my clients are navigating eating disorders, trauma, ADHD, autism, or identity exploration alongside anxiety. Others are simply seeking a therapist who will see them as a whole person, rather than just a set of symptoms.

Conclusion

Anxiety doesn’t need to be something you battle in silence or push down until it disappears. Here, we’ll approach it with creativity and curiosity, allowing space for your story to unfold in its unpolished, human form. Therapy is about reconnecting with your inner voice—the one that anxiety has tried to quiet. If you’re ready to explore anxiety in a space that sees the whole you, I invite you to reach out and begin your journey with me at Unpolished Journey.
